Last beam in place for new research building
On Monday 4 July, the Addenbrooke’s Clinical Research Centre (ACRC) had a topping out ceremony for a new building which extends their current facility. The topping out ceremony signifies the final piece of the building is set in place. The expansion is located at the heart of the Cambridge Biomedical and has been funded by the University of Cambridge. It will contain five floors dedicated to clinical research, adding a further 2,200 square metres of floor space including an expansion of the current NIHR/Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility(CRF).
The building is due to be opened in March 2017, when a new phase of research will begin at the Cambridge Biomedical campus, the full story below.
A research facility in Cambridge is expanding, with researchers now being given more room to carry out their clinical research.
On Monday 4 July, the Addenbrooke’s Clinical Research Centre (ACRC) had a topping out ceremony for a new building which extends their current facility. The topping out ceremony signifies the final piece of the building is set in place.
The expansion is located at the heart of the Cambridge Biomedical Campus – the centrepiece of the largest biotech cluster outside the United States. It has been funded by the University of Cambridge and will contain five floors dedicated to clinical research, adding a further 2,200 square metres of floor space. Facilities will include an area for endoscopy research and other investigations, research in metabolic disorders, a Clinical Trials Unit specialising in testing new treatments as well as an expansion of the current NIHR/Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility(CRF).
Members of the clinical research community from the University of Cambridge, Cambridge University Hospitals and builders from SDC – who built the new expansion attended the topping out ceremony to see the structure being completed before work on the inside and kitting it out begins.
“I’m delighted that the Addenbrooke’s Clinical Research Centre expansion is near completion,” said Professor Krishna Chatterjee, Director of the ACRC. “This extension will provide our researchers with much-needed extra space to carry out their innovative work including identifying new treatments – making the Cambridge Biomedical Campus a very exciting place for clinical research in the future.”
The building is due to be opened in March 2017, when a new phase of research will begin at the Cambridge Biomedical campus, supporting clinical research discoveries and better treatments for patients.
