We believe that every child and young person should have the opportunity to participate in clinical research, which can be truly life changing.

In 2022, over 4,000 children and young people took part in clinical research studies at NIHR Cambridge CRF.

Our maternal and child health CRF have dedicated paediatric nurses. All nurses who care for children and young people have annual intermediate paediatric life support training. 

Get actively involved!

You can get involved in research in various ways, by helping us to identify research topics,  providing input to our research teams or participating in a clinical study. 

ACTIVE is the children and young people’s board at Cambridge University Hospitals and is made up on people aged 8-18 years old. Some of them are thinking about working in a medical career, and some are just interested in medical science and research and want to make a difference.

Work experience placements

We offer students aged 16 and over a chance to participate in some work experience at the NIHR Cambridge CRF. Three times a year, we give students a chance to spend a day with us, learning from our experienced team on all aspects of clinical research.

A new trial taking place in UK to look at the best treatment for vasculitis has recruited its first patient – a child aged 10

A national trial led by chief investigator Professor David Jayne, NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre researcher and supported by the NIHR Cambridge Clinical Research Facility (CRF), is testing which biologic drugs – those that directly target the immune system – are most effective to treat vasculitis in all ages.
